under - pod
Tom is under the car.
(Tom je pod autom.)
The dog is sleeping under the bed.
(Pes spí pod posteľou.)
The bag is under the chair.
(Taška je pod stoličkou.)
next to – vedľa
She is sitting next to John.
(Sedí vedľa Johna.)
We live next to the bank.
(Bývame vedľa banky.)
The shop is next to the church.
(Obchod je vedľa kostola.)
behind - za
The cyclist is behind the tractor.
(Cyklista je za traktorom.)
The garden is behind the house.
(Záhrada je za domom.)
We saw somebody behind the tree.
(Videli sme niekoho za stromom.)
in front of - pred
The cyclist is in front of the bus.
(Cyklista je pred autobusom.)
There is a bus stop in front of the supermarket.
(Autobusová zastávka je pred supermarketom.)
She is sitting in front of me.
(Sedí predo mnou.)
below - pod
The temperature is below zero.
(Teplota je pod nulou.)
He is wearing a long coat that come down below his knees.
(Má oblečený dlhý kabát, ktorý má pod kolená.)
The garage is below the office.
(Garáž je pod kanceláriou.)
Rozdiel medzi under a below
Všimli sme si, že predložky znamenajú v podstate to isté. Avšak under sa väčšinou používa, keď je niečo prikryté, napr.:
There is nothing under the jacket.
(Nič nie je pod sakom.)
alebo
I hid the key under the stone.
(Ukryl som kľúč pod kameňom.)
Pri použití predložky below nemusí byť niečo priamo fyzicky pod, napr.:
below the water surface
(pod povrchom vody)
alebo
twenty miles below the earth's surface
(20 míľ pod zemským povrchom),
tzn. nemusí sa priamo dotýkať vody či zemského povrchu.

Vymenujte predložky miesta.
