All European countries help support European culture. For each European country is a specialty something different. Hungary is famous for “Hungarian goulash“, Poland is famous for caramel sweets – “Krowky“.

Slovakia is a country with the high mountains “The High Tatras“ and beautiful nature.

The culture in Slovakia is mixed, because many people from CzechRepublic, Hungary, Poland, Austria and Ukrajina live in it. We can divide Slovak culture into three groups, according to people, who live in different parts of Slovakia.

People who live in West Slovakia like modern music that came from 90-ties . My grandfather with his son and son’s wife founded a group and they use to sing and play the music in different parties, balls, weddings and their specialty is playing on the New Years Eve party.

People who live in East Slovakia like folksongs. East Slovakia is famous for folk music festivals and parties.

When we speak about the culture we mustn’t forget to mention Slovak poets and writers, for example Ľudovít Štúr, Andrej Sládkovič, Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav, Ján Smrek, Janko Matuška, Ján Hollý.

Slovak history is a little bit cruel, Slovak people were bearing oppression. It was a reason Slovak culture began to evolve later. First Slovakia was part of Uhorsko, but after World War I Slovakia separated and joined the Czech Republic and with this Czecho – SlovakRepublic was established. The first independent SlovakRepublic was established fifteen years ago.

If somebody says: “Slovakia is the heart of Europe“, he/she is right. Slovakia is a beautiful country and because of that I’m happy and pleased to live here.
