Examples:

● You haven´t seen Mary today, have you?

No, I´m afraid not.

 

● It was a good film, wasn´t it?

Yes, I really enjoyed it.

 

Have you? a wasn´t it? sa nazývajú question tags (v slovenčine dovetky, „prívesky“. Môžeme ich preložiť ako „však?“). Ide o tzv. „mini-otázky“, ktoré sa nachádzajú na konci vety v hovorovej angličtine. Často v nich používame pomocné slovesá (have/was/will atď.). Pre prítomný a minulý čas používame do/does/did, napr.:

● Mary plays the pinao, doesn´t she?     Well, yes, but not very well.
● You didn´t lock the door, did you?        No, I forgot.

 

Zvyčajne používame negatívny „question tag“ po pozitívnej vete!

 

positive sentence             +          negative tag

Mary will be here soon,                    won´t she?

There was a lot of traffic,                  wasn´t there?

Jim should pass the exam,             shouldn´t he?

 

 

. . . a pozitívny „question tag“ po negatívnej vete:

 

negative sentence             +          positive tag

Mary won´t be late,                    will she?

They don´t like us,                    do they?

You haven´t got a car,              have you?

 

Všimnite si význame 'yes' a 'no' v odpovedi na negatívnu vetu:

 

● You´re not going out today, are you?       Yes. (=Áno, chystám sa von.)
                                                                     No. (= Nie, nechystám sa von.)

 

 

Význam „question tag“ závisí na spôsobe, akým ho poviete. Ak hlas klesá, hovoriaci sa v skutočnosti nepýta otázku, len čaká, že počúvajúci s ním bude súhlasiť, napr.:

 

● It´s a nice day, isn´t it?    Yes, lovely.
● Tim doesn´t look very well today, does he?     No, he looks very tired.

● She´s a very pretty. She´s got beautiful eyes, hasn´t she?

 

le ak hlas hovoriaceho stúpa, je to skutočná otázka, napr.:

● You haven´t seen Mary today, have you?       No, I´m afraid not.

(=Nevidel si náhodou dnes Mary?)

 

Často používame 'zápornú vetu + positive tag' ak žiadame o nejakú vec alebo informáciu, alebo keď žiadame niekoho, aby niečo urobil. Intonácia stúpa, napr.:

 

● You haven´t got a pen, have you?                    Yes, here you are.

You couldn´t do me a favour, could you?         It depends, what it is.

● You don´t know where Karen is, do you?         Sorry, I have no idea.

 

Po LET´S... „question tag“ je .. shall we?:

● Let´s go for a walk, shall we?

Po imperatíve (Do... / Don´t do ... atď.) „question tag“ je zvyčajne ... will you?:
● Open the door, will you?

● Don´t be late, will you?

 

VŠIMNITE SI!

Povieme .... arent´I (=am I not?)
